WE ARE…
GALATAFILM
Galata Film set off with great dreams: to contribute significantly to a gradually growing Turkish cinema industry that now has a stronger reputation both within Turkey and abroad.
With the intention of unleashing new ground in a film industry that’s experiencing an age of growth, Galata Film was founded by Taha Altaylı, Mustafa Karahan and Muharrem Gülmez, all coming together to unite their experience in finance and film.
The name Galata Film derives not only from the suburb in Istanbul, but also the rooted and solid story of the Galatians, the resistant structure of Galata Tower, and the pioneering and courageous character of Hezarfen who flew from the same tower, over the Bosphorus Strait.
With the experience acquired during this short period and the unique talent, experience and know-how of its team, Galata Film intends to blend Turkish and universal cinema standards, setting a benchmark for both itself and the industry, in terms of not only creativity, but also business models and work principles.
NEW PROJECTS, NEW HORIZONS

Ecotopia was another courageous and innovative project by Galata Film. Written and directed by Yüksel Aksu, Ecotopia is a story relevant to both Turkey and the world. All countries around the world are familiar with the local flavours it harbours; names and testimonials are the only difference. Its proposition is universal; its concern crosses borders.
The film which was released in December 2011 pulled in 520.000 admissions at the box office in Turkey and it won 4 major awards at the 23rd Ankara International Film Festival, including Best Film and Best Director. With these qualities, Ecotopia became a benchmark film in explaining Galata Film’s ideals and is its first feature film shot in Turkey.
Currently, Galata Film’s first new project for 2013, THE SISTERHOOD OF NIGHT directed by Caryn Waechter, has completed shooting in New York and is now in post production.
With the inclusion of Mark Cooper who has produced many prestigious films and Mehmet Özduygu who has more than 30 years of experience in film distribution business, Galata Film has commenced a strategic partnership with Stewart Till, the New York based SONAR ENTERTAINMENT’s CEO and one of the most important 100 people in English cinema, and has already begun discussing new international production projects.
